WHAT IS A FRIEND????

What is a FRIEND?
If you could choose at least three (3) words to describe was a friend is to you, what words would they be and why?

When I think of the word FRIEND I think of the following words:

A Wolf
Loyalty
Respect
Nurture

I placed the word wolf at the top of my list for a reason; To me the way a wolf behaves towards its pack-mates illustrates perfectly how I see friendship. In a wolf pack loyalty to the pack and to all members in it is unconditional, there is respect for each pack-mate as defined by their status in the pack and wolves are nurturing towards their mate, their pack-mates and their young.

What more could I ask for in a friend?

What a pity that most humans do not observe, learn from and emulate wolf behavior.

Most humans do not even come close to what a wolf represents, not even what the dog represents….. most are no better than coyotes, hyenas, or jackals.

I look forward to reading people’s answers.

True friends are hard to find, but recently I have discovered that I have acquired two new friends.Three words: acceptance, understanding, sincere
1. my new friends accept who I am unconditionally
2.they understand where I am coming from and why
3. they are sincere in their wish to help me and stand by me no matter what

Interesting as all three of these are Army values which theoretically are what we strive to live by. Just a thought

Those three attributes I hold very close and follow the best I can, regardless of how difficult some may make it, and many do not have a clue as to those words true meaning, and how to apply them in their lives. Instant gratification is only a weakness, as is falsehoods.

Without these, I dont think I could call a person a friend....which is probably why I have very few.

Our friends are the ones we turn to to bear all, to tell them things we wouldnt want anyone knowing we feel, knowing they will never condemn us or shun us. And we in turn are there for our friends to turn to with their most darkest or deepest thoughts. Someone you can stand in front of and be stripped down to nothing but our soul and feel free and comfortable, and not selfconscious(sp) about even the tiniest things we hold inside.

The wolf is one of the wild animals that I've been drawn to ever since I was a younger person growing up. They are truly the animal of my life that I try to save and try to be most like. They are the only animal that I know, are more than a friend in every meaning of the word they are the true meaning of Family Values for me. They are a pack it is true but they take care of one another from the young to the old. So to me respect, love, loyalty and trust are the meaning of a friend.

You also have it right by saying that humans need to look and "learn" from the wolf. I think humans could and would learn alot from them.

WOW, That hit home, i blew disk 3/4 in my back in 2004, i have had 2 operations on my back and i can no longer work, i have rehabed myself, getting stronger and stronger, iam in school for Personal Training, i want to get back to mylife, i was in flight medic school when it happen, and want to help people like me, who the docs gave up on, this injury, cost me my marriage, he didnt want a wife in a wheel chair, so he was cheating on me, with a girl that worked at a local WAWA, (like a 711 store), .......... "i have forgotten more about being smart, then she will ever rememer about being stupid".......When, i found out, it just about killed me, we were couple for 12 years, and married 5 of those years,....... i lost none of my friends, i gained friends, but i lost my husband, and at the time, i couldnt see the "light", but now i do, this girl he wanted so so bad, has an STD, that one you have, you have,for life (herpies), and she isnt what he wants anymore, he tried to come back to me, crying but im over him, i told him when i kicked him out,(my house), i never go back, and once im ,gone im gone,.... i have great friends, who stood by me, and helped me anyway they could, and i love them, Annie and Barb, and Dave, Jamie, Juan,my kids, Mitch and Alexis, without them i dont know what i would do, single life is kinda hard, but im getting the hang of it, hehe, and i kinda like it,........ he hates it, but oh well, he didnt know what he had ,when he had it, like your friends, and know what Karma is bitch, dan (the ex) is learning that now, and so will they, Blessed Be, and my the gods look after you and yours,.......and the......., Three words for me, is Honor,loyalty, self sacriface,
